New £20 Million Fund to Help Keep Children Out of the Criminal Justice System – 14th May 2021 (England & Wales)

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) has announced a new fund of up to £20million to find out how diversionary programmes can keep children aged 10-17 years out of the criminal justice system in England and Wales.

The fund – ‘another chance: diversion from the criminal justice system’ – seeks to understand how offering alternatives to arrest, conviction and custody to children who’ve offended can sustainably prevent them from becoming involved in violence later in their lives.

Support could include mental health support, whole family interventions or mentoring. The YEF will invest in 10-20 programmes that are ready for evaluation or could be supported to reach this point within two years.

Any organisation which receives referrals from a relevant statutory service are encouraged to apply from the 19th April 2021 until the 14th May 2021.

The Youth Endowment Fund will run a series of online workshops for organisations interested in becoming a YEF partner in this grant round.
