New Funding for Safeguarding Training – 14th January 2019 (England)

Big Lottery Fund in partnership with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) is investing a total of £1.14 million to improve access to training, support and advice within the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to develop best practice relating to safeguarding children and adults at risk and protecting charity employees and volunteers from bullying and harassment and sexual harassment.

Overall objectives of the Safeguarding Training Fund are to:

  • Improve awareness of good safeguarding practice through the delivery of a national and generic safeguarding training package.
  • Extend the reach of existing resources around safeguarding, and support innovative mechanisms to deliver safeguarding training which reaches small to large organisations.
  • Provide an insight into the impact of the safeguarding training, which helps to build a long-term legacy for this work and embed good safeguarding practice and awareness into the sector.

The funding will be delivered in two phases:

Phase 1: Safeguarding resources for England: Organisations or partnerships of organisations with the track record and knowledge to develop high quality resources which will be freely available to the voluntary sector to improve safeguarding practice are invited to put forward proposals costing up to £570,000.

Grants can be spent on, for example, staff salaries; volunteer expenses; management costs; monitoring and evaluation; overheads; legal fees or general project costs.

Registered charities, community benefit societies registered as industrial and provident societies and community interest companies are eligible to apply. Organisations of another type not listed above are eligible where they operate as a social enterprise and principally reinvest surpluses for social benefit.

Phase 1 Application (submission of interest) deadline is Monday 14 January 2019 at 12.00pm

To apply applicants should submit an expression an interest form. This will enable the Big Lottery Fund to decide whether to invite applicants to submit a full application.
