New £20 Million Fund to Help Homeless People into Private Rented Accommodation – 21st November 2018 (England)

The Government has launched a new £20 million fund to help homeless people into private rented accommodation. The fund is open to bids from Local Councils to help set up or maintain existing schemes that provide financial support to help people who are at risk of homelessness access or maintain their tenancies.

This can include helping people with their deposits for the tenancy or rent payments. Alternatively, some schemes may involve the council managing the property on the landlord’s behalf.

Bids will need to demonstrate how their scheme(s) will support the government’s desired outcome for the fund – to support 8,965 homeless households (or those at risk) into the private rented sector through the creation of new tenancies, or support in sustaining existing tenancies.

Up to £5 million in funding is available for bids for the 2018 to 2019 financial year with £15 million available for the 2019 to 2020 financial year.  There is no minimum or maximum bid and each bid will be judged on its merits in accordance with the assessment criteria.

The closing date for applications is the 21st November 2018.
