Funding for Biodiversity and Recreation Projects – 5th November 2018 (England, Wales and Northern Ireland)

Biffa Awards which are part of the Landfills Communities Fund has announced that grants of between £10,000 and £75,000 are available to not for profit for recreation and re-building biodiversity projects.  The total project cost cannot exceed £200,000.

Under the Re-building Biodiversity funding stream grants are available to support site-based projects that protect and enhance biodiversity across the UK, particularly those concentrating on species and habitats that have been identified as a priority in Biodiversity Action Plans as well as green spaces; woodland walks; play areas; sports facilities; and community gardens; etc. To be eligible the project site must be within 15 miles of a significant Biffa operation.

Through the Recreation funding stream grants are available to sport clubs for the building of; or improvements to clubhouse facilities, that can demonstrate multi-usage within the wider community, and that are not for the sole use of the sports club or any other organisation. To be eligible projects must be within 5 miles of a significant Biffa Operation and 10 miles of an active Biffa landfill site.

There is a two-stage application process and the closing date for submitting an Expression of Interest is 12 noon on the 5th November 2018. Projects successful at this stage will have until 12 noon on the 3rd December 2018 to submit a full application.  Biffa Awards will fund up to 90% of eligible project costs.
