Grants to Support Events for the 2018 Festival of Social Science – 1st June 2018 (UK)

The call for applications to the Economic and Social Research Council (ERSC) for grants to support events taking place during the Festival of Social Science is now open. This year, 2018, the Festival takes place between the 3rd and 10th November.

Young people’s organisations and schools; Local authorities and other government bodies; Museums, science centres and tourist sites; ESRC funded grant holders, postgraduate students and those working in ESRC funded investments; Non-ESRC funded social scientists; Social science organisations and Universities are all eligible to apply.

Grants of up to £1,000 towards running an event are available and the organisers are particularly keen to receive applications for events in Swindon, London and Wales. Applications from early career researchers who want to find ways to engage with audiences through a variety of activities are also welcomed.

Examples of previous events include: Film screenings; Virtual activities; Hands on activities; Debates; Outdoor events; Seminars; Workshops and Exhibitions

Activities must:

  • Be held during the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2018 (3-10 November)
  • Fit with the aims and objectives of the Festival
  • Feature social science (ideally with a social scientist involved in the event)
  • Be free to attend
  • Not be aimed primarily at academic audiences.

The ESRC works in partnership with universities across the country to produce local festivals and publishes a list of partners on the website. Applicants should  directly to a local partner where they are local to that institution.

This call closes at 5pm on 1st June 2018 with all applicants informed of the outcomes during the week commencing 9th July 2018.
