Seafarers UK has announced that as of the 1st January 2017, applications will no longer be subject to deadlines and will be accepted on a continuous basis.
Seafarers UK is a leading provider of grants to maritime charities and charitable maritime projects, working to help serving and ex-serving seafarers and their families who are experiencing hardship as well as maritime youth organisations both in the UK and Commonwealth countries. In 2016 Seafarers had 121 applications and awarded 94 grants totalling £2,547,602.
During 2017, priority is given to projects supporting:
- Older seafarers and their dependants
- Working age seafarers
- Families and dependants of working age seafarers
- Young people in maritime youth groups – for young people who may be considering a career at sea.
Previous projects supported include:
Age UK Wirral which received two grants totalling £28,886 to help the Men’s Activity Project (£16,725).
Ahoy centre which was awarded £1,000 to provide residential sailing and training opportunities on board traditional sailing vessels for young people who are not in employment.
