Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research – Follow-on Funding (UK)

Researchers in UK Universities and Research Council institutes who have previously received funding from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) for a research activity can now apply for follow on funding under the Pathfinder call.

The Pathfinder scheme is designed to support the translation of fundamental research which has been funded by the Council into practical application, including commercialisation enabling researchers to maximise the societal and economic benefits of their research.

Funding is available for activities such as commissioning expert advice; completing a market assessment to determine likely potential, competition and opportunities; IP searches – in particular freedom to operate. This funding is the first step in the commercialisation process and provides grants of between £7,000 and £10,000 for a maximum duration of 6 months and is designed to strengthen a future application for full follow on funding.

Applications can be submitted at any time.
