The Barrow Cadbury Trust makes grants to support projects that encourage a fair, equal, peaceful and democratic society.

The Trust was set up in 1920 as the Barrow & Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. We then merged with the Paul S. Cadbury Trust in 1994. Over the last century, the Trust will have invested well over £150 million in community-based projects in some of the most deprived communities in the UK and in the conflict-torn regions of the world.

Area                England

Grant Range    Minimum:£10  Maximim:5,000

Purpose    They aim to encourage a fair, equal, peaceful and democratic society by making grants to support groups that are working to achieve our objectives. It is their   intention that  grants  enable groups to act as catalysts of social change.

Aims:

  1. To build bridges between policy makers and grassroots activity;
  2. To find ways of identifying best practice from projects to help social change
  3. To encourage new solutions to old problems

Programme Areas

The funding available is delivered through 3 programme areas.  These are;

1) Inclusive Communities: focusing on mainstreaming approaches to equality.

2) Young Adults and Criminal Justice: Developing findings of the Barrow Cadbury Commission on Young Adults & the Criminal Justice System into practical solutions.

3) Global Exchange: reflecting UK challenges internationally.

Who Can Apply

Whilst the Trust will usually make grants to registered charities, it also administers the Barrow Cadbury Fund. This is a company limited by guarantee rather than a registered charity and enables them to support non-charitable activity where this meets  priorities. This makes grants in the same programme areas but to a wider range of organisations.

Projects must fall within our objectives-promoting a fair, equal, peaceful and democratic society and meet the criteria within one or more of our three programme areas.

Eligible projects can be locally based but must demonstrate national significance.

How To Apply

The Trust has a two stage application process and organisations wishing to apply for funding need in the first instance to submit an expression of interest.

When To Apply         Open to applications all year round.
